Things to do
Whilst staying in our Stoke Gabriel holiday cottage, you be positioned alongside a picturesque creek of the River Dart in South Devon, Stoke Gabriel is a delightful unspoiled village that is great for everyone.
“Crabbing down the mill” is a must if you’ve got kids and we know the best location, what bait to use and even provide the crabbing lines and nets for you.
There are kayaks for hire on the millpond or river and if your a competent paddler, rumour has it there’s a few pubs nestled along the river Dart.
Playing in the apple orchard (Opposite One of the village pubs) is safe for the children and if they misbehave, there’s some stocks at the Church House Inn.
Picnics down Stockham Pool or anywhere else along the river are a great way to spend a few hours watching the sail boats from Totnes head towards Dartmouth.
Stoke Gabriel is ideally placed for numerous family activities; Beach, Moors, Zoo’s, Community Farms, Play Parks, Theme Parks….We can help you decide and give you advice on the best places to go.
There’s plenty to do when it’s just the two of you. Whether you just want to get away from everything or explore the area. Our cottage is less than 2 minutes walk from country lanes that lead to small riverside hamlets like Duncannon to walking across the millpond dam and enjoy the woodland walk along the river dart. Maybe book a table for two in the local inn or maybe just hideaway in our cottage with our log burning stove and comfortable sofa.
Where to eat & drink
If you don’t fancy cooking in the fully equipped holiday cottage kitchen or a barbeque up in the garden then Stoke Gabriel has two local pubs, both do food. If you’re with children then Church House inn is good as the orchard with a playground is just “over the wall”. The Castle has more room for sitting down and eating and a bigger area outside.
There’s also the River Shack by the Millpond which has a good reputation.
Totnes is nearby (No more than £10 taxi if your planning to drink) and has loads of places to eat, drink and explore. Torbay (Torquay, Paignton and Brixham) has something for everyone from fast food to fine dining, just tell us what you like and we can advise.

Plymouth
40 Minutes away, A walk around the Barbican, a tour of the Plymouth Gin distillery, Lunch at the Barbican Kitchen and then off to the Aquarium past the Pilgrims Steps is one way to spend the day.

Totnes
5 miles away and our home town now, full of eclectic people and independent shops. Loads of places to eat, drink and explore. Market days on Fridays and Saturdays. During the summer, there's something on every day and to be honest, people watching is fun most days too !
Totnes even has a Castle....What more could you wish for?

Dartmouth, Blackpool Sands, Beesands
Dartmouth is a market town with numerous independent shops, cafes and restaurants with nearby amazing sandy and pebble beaches. It's a great day out on it's own but you can do "the round robin" which gives you Totnes, Dartmouth, Paignton, River boat, Steam Train and open top bus all in one day and then maybe revisit what you liked best?

Torbay
15 Minutes away, Torquay, Paignton and Brixham all have their own characters. Harbours, Piers, Shopping Centres, Scenic views, Steam Railways and there's some really decent places to eat, just let us know what you like and we can suggest some suitable places.

Dartmoor
Wild and Rugged, amazing walks, views and pubs. Don't forget the dartmoor ponies and the Tors for burning off that cream tea (Cream first....Always)

Exeter
We'd suggest you go by train, traffic is always a pain unless you're going out of season and not on a Saturday. Great places to eat, shop and explore.
